The snow shovel is part of the indispensable equipment in off-piste. It is therefore important to choose it with attention, in order to opt for the shovel which will allow you to maybe save a life in an avalanche.

This is why, at Precision Ski will give you some tips on how to choose your shovel freeride.

The material of the snow shovel

The first thing that you need to look for when buying your shovel is the material. A snow shovel aluminum will be lighter, but less robust than a shovel in metal. The teflon coating on him, will prevent the appearance of frost on your equipment.

The size of the handle

The size of the handle of a snow shovel is an important feature to take into account. Indeed, if the latter must be adapted to your template. If it is too small, the effect of leverage will be reduced and you will encounter difficulties to generate large volumes of snow.

You can very well opt for a foldable snow shovel or telescopic handle that will allow you to save space in your backpack and have access to a good sleeve length when of the release.

The scoop of the snow shovel

It is better to opt for a shovel, ski , bucket, metal, more cutting edge, to break the hard snow. A plastic cup will be less strong and crack more easily, especially in low temperatures.

Pay also attention to the edges. When shoveling, you may sometimes need to ask the foot on the edge of the shovel and if he is fleeing, you will not be able to attack the blocks in the hard snow.
